if I "Open in New Tab", how can I (in that new tab) eliminate the address of the 'opened from' tab which always appears after a question mark?

For example, a BBC news article cites a report from the U.N. Opening the link to the U.N. report in a new tab leads to an address such as “http://www.un.org/budget/?bbc etc” when what I need for citation is to the UN report is just “http://www.un.org/budget/”. In citing reports for an article it is time consuming to open in a new tab, highlight the actual address (but not the ? and referred-from address which follows) then open the actual address in a new tab so it can be entered as a footnote in what I am writing. I would like the address to open in a new tab without the referred-from info.

Personally I would just right-click the link and copy the link the the clipboard (Copy Link Location). If I want to edit the link then I paste the copied link in the location bar in the current tab and either edit the URL or select and copy the part that I need with no need to open the link. If you remove unwanted additions then you can use Alt + Enter to open the link a a new tab.

Thank you Cor-el, I appreciate the suggestion which will work at least as well as what I'm presently doing. Must admit I was hoping there was a way to strip the referring info - with all the concerns over privacy these days (and the ability to prevent a website from knowing the previous website you visited) it seems like that would be a logical addition. After all, it is providing the info on what email you clicked the link from.
