Is this happening in a 'Word' document? In the document, is the 'link' highlighted or otherwise different from the normal text?

When I click on a link within a document it does not open. The cursor does change to a hand & it does say "CTRL +click to follow link https….", but that doesn’t work. However it does turn on the Underline function in the word processor.

Ctrl+clicking a link in MS Works 9 turns on underlining?? Something seems to be wrong there, but I'm not sure any of the support forum volunteers here uses the program. I guess Microsoft isn't supporting the program any more, either (after October 2012). Is it an option to use a more modern office suite such as https://www.libreoffice.org/ -- the price is right.

This is in a .wps document. I can save it as a .doc document, but when opened it's titled as a .wps document. Either way the link is highlighted in blue.

Yes, Ctrl+clicking a link in MS Works 9 turns on underlining. So does just clicking on it. I'm sure it's not supported anymore, but was hoping something wasn't set right in Firefox.

I tried LIbreOffice or OpenOffice long time ago but MS Works was easier to use. I just don't need all the options that other programs provide. It 's been awhile but guess I'll have to check out LO again.

Any difference if you change your default browser to Edge?

I just used Wordpad & created a document with a link and both Edge & FF open it.

I use the docx format. Can you give it a try? Load the file. Then save it as docx.

Saving in the .docx format behaved just like saving in the .doc format. When opened, the title's filename comes up as a .wps file. Apparently Works is changing the file back to .wps in order to be viewed or edited.

Again, neither FF nor Edge will open the link.

As mentioned, Wordpad works properly with a .docx file when using FF and Edge.

I could use Wordpad but there is no option to save in the .doc format. At one time I used MS Office & sometimes when I sent a .docx file to someone they could not open it. The .doc format was more universally accepted so I ended up using it. Maybe using .docx is not an issue anymore.

The problem is obviously with MS Works 9. Either I'll have to cut/paste the links or move on to another word processor.

I think it's time to switch from DOC to DOCX. DOC files are considered less secure (more likely to be used in an attack due to their structure and capabilities) so there is a higher risk that email filters will strip them.

I looked at LibreOffice again & will probably use it. I noticed it can save in Word 2007 - 365 (.docx) and in Office Open XML Text (.docx).

I did some searching & it appears the two versions are almost identical. Which one is best to save documents with so that I don't have a problem in the future? I presume Office Open XML Text is the latest & presumably the best because it's what WordPad uses which comes with Windows 10.
