There seems to have been an update and now any time I start Firefox, it opens on a home page with ‘most used links’. I don’t want to see any links; seeing lots is prompts me to waste more time on the internet. I want to see a blank page like when I open a new tab. How do I do that? It seems impossible now.

Well, I feel the same as you. Sadly it is impossible to set the homepage to `about:blank` right now, but I've created a post on the Feedback forum -> https://mozilla.crowdicity.com/post/739202 ; I believe this kinds of question is more suitable to be asked on the Feedback forum instead of the Support forum :)

And honestly if I don’t see a blank page when I boot my browser, I’m quitting Firefox for something that lets me see a blank page. I find the suggested links intensely annoying.

Ok yes if there’s no function, then Feedback forum is the place for this question. Thank you!
