I realize this is not a new question, but my attempts to implement prior solutions to this board have failed.

TB was previously configured and working with GMail. Appears to have stopped working after upgrade--though I don't know for sure. I deleted all the incoming and outgoing accounts except for a non-gmail outoing acct.

I tried two different approaches: 1. Add new account>IMAP>auto config of IMAP. Google keeps giving me a security warning, and TB cannot complete the config.

2. Add new account>IMAP>config manually>Auth method=Normal pwd (incoming and outgoing) Config found, no reported issues from Google. Retest appears to run OK. I should note that Auth Method for Outgoing reconfigs to OAuth2. I hit "Done" and I get the msg "Error Creating Acct: Incoming server already exists". (This note--https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1283682--did not resolve the issue.) I do not see any incoming or outgoing accounts at all.

Neither 1 nor 2 yields a configured account in TB.

I also tried reinstalling TB and trying both 1 and 2. No success.

I apologize in advance if I am missing something really obvious. I have reached the end of my capabilities. I am really at a loss.

Thank you for any help.

Why did you delete your account? I really really fail to understand why folks do this. Do you burn your house down if the front door lock stops working? There was a connection error. deleting and trying to recreate can not fix what was the issue in the first place.

All removing the account does is hide from view whatever the original problem was before you removed it. If Google are issuing security warnings (perhaps you could share what they are saying), it might be they do not like your proxy or VPN. I am guessing, because I have nothing at all to base a considered opinion on, but the issue here is very unlikely to be Thunderbird.

What I can glean is you should be using oauth authentication, and you are trying to manually force something else. Google are phasing out any other authentication method other than oAuth. If you are being told the account already exists, then it does. Go to account settings and fix the one that is there, rather then messing in the new account wizard. Your very first failed account creation attempt created a non working account.

I deleted my account as an absolute last resort, and only after trying every other solution I could find.

Why didn't I reach out before doing deleting my account? Mainly because I realize Mozilla is a volunteer operation, and because I felt that I should be able to fix the issue with the info that was out there.

You raise a whole bunch of questions that I don't know how to answer. Rather than drag out the resolution to a problem that I seem to have created, I'm going to walk away from TBird for a while. If I eventually find someone who I can pay to set up my Thunderbird/Google connection, great.
