Deleting emails
I am accustomed to deleting draft emails by pushing the delete button. But that no longer works. The "deleted" emails just return immediately. What can I do?

Hello there rothray. We have read your message. We try to help you.
Deleted messages repearing after deleting from software Thunderbird.
If your on the working in the system of a company with account use of them. It might be that your sync automatically option is still on. Deleted emails will be synced and reappear.
You can go to go into Settings > Accounts and apps > (app) and turn off Data synchronization for mail to stop it from re-syncing after deleting.

I appreciate your attempt to help - but I find no information providing that.
I just see two options:
- Mark it as solved (Which it isn't!)
and
- This doesn't solve my problem
Maybe I'm missing something to click in...
The problem is:
I am accustomed to deleting draft emails by pushing the delete button. But that no longer works. The "deleted" emails just return immediately. What can I do?

Hello there again rothray.r
Deleted emails reappearing back into your software. Seems to be more issues with your also your inbox . Try to remove all unwanted mails by putting them into a different new map. And the others you like to keep in a other map. Clear your map where they came from. Clear the inbox, junkfolder, draftfolder. When they are empty compact them. Rightclick on inbox to compact them.
Rothray is this possible to do?

Dear день сумо - but too complicated for me to follow... Not sure what you mean by "map". I realise translation from your language into English is not easy,
I appreciate your effort to help. In the meantime, I am re-sending the drafts (one by one) to myyself. When it arrives in my IN folder, I can delete it there. I have about 100 to do - so, it takes time!
Thank you for doing your best to help.

Right click on the 'Drafts' folder and select: Properties click on 'Repair folder' button click on 'OK'
Then Right click on the 'Drafts' folder and select: Compact
If there are any emails, now try the delete.
re :I am accustomed to deleting draft emails by pushing the delete button.
When composing emails it is normal for draft copies to get created if you have set up Thunderbird to auto save every x minutes or if you manualy choose to save. However, that draft email should get auto deleted once you have reopened stored draft and sent it. Then a copy is stored in the 'Sent' folder.
If you create a draft and then choose to open as a new message then the original draft remains in the Drafts folder.
The 'Drafts' folder gets a lot of deleting activity, which means it needs more regular compacting to remove all those hidden and marked as deleted copies of old mail. If deleted emails start to reappear then the folder sounds like it has got corrupted.
Using the 'Repair Folder' option and compacting the folder normally fixes this issue, but let me know what occurs after doing this. Even if you have been moving draft email into another folder to delete them, an old copy still resides in the Drafts folder, so please follow instructions to repair and compact.
Let me know the results.
Dear Toad Hall,
Thank you for your helpful advice and explanation - all of which makes sense. BUT...
I have fallen at the first hurdle! I right click on the Drafts folder (nothing happens) but I don't know where to look for Properties.
Where do I look for/find that?
Please bear with me... RothRay
Image shows - For right handed person using mouse - right click to see drop down options.
If you are left handed you may have the setting reversed, so it might be a left click on mouse.
Image shows the 'Properties' located at bottom of list.
I've also underlined the 'compact' option, which you will also need to use.
I'm sorry - but I still don't know how I can get to Properties... Clicking on Drafts gets me nowhere! How can I get to this elusive panel? I don't blame you if you despair of my lack of simple computer basics - but I'm stuck! RothRay
All the folders in the left Folder Pane have the ability to left click to display contents in Thread pane on the right. All the folders in the Left Folder Pane have the ability to show a drop down menu when you right click on the folder.
Does the right click on other folders in Folder Pane display a drop down menu? Is it only the 'Drafts' folder which fails to do this ?
Is the Drafts folder in a Pop or Imap mail account?
Toad Hall - You asked:
Does the right click on other folders in Folder Pane display a drop down menu?
No Is it only the 'Drafts' folder which fails to do this ?
No - same with all
Is the Drafts folder in a Pop or Imap mail account?
I have no idea... How can I find out?
I tried to attach a photo of the relevant part of my email folders - but was unsuccessful in my attempt...
Sorry to be such a pain - but I am totally lost!!

re: Is the Drafts folder in a Pop or Imap mail account?....I have no idea... How can I find out?
Right click on the mail account name folder in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' Select 'Server Settings' for account Top right it will say 'Server Type'. Does it say 'Pop Mail Server' or 'Imap Mail Server' ?
It says: Imap Mail Server'
Eureka!

Check folder needs a subscribe reset.
- Right click on the mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
- Click on 'Refresh'
- Make sure the 'Drafts' folder is selected and clickon 'Subscribe'
- click on 'OK'
Other checks: In 'Account Settings' for the account
- Select 'Copies & Folders'
Make sure the 'Drafts' section has this selected: keep draft messages in
- Select 'Other' and choose 'Drafts on mail account name'
Check it is synchronsing ok.
- Select 'Synchronisation & Storage'
- click on 'Advanced'
- Make sure the 'Drafts' folder is selected and click on 'OK'
Well, I followed your instructions as best I could. I think I did everything correctly. But After all that. I find I still cannot delete selected drafts from that folder.
You probably want to give up on me... I guess I did not proceed correctly - even though I tried again several times. I thank you for your patience - but not sure if you can do anything more... RothRay Paris
First let's try a complete removal of the imap Drafts files to see if the corruption is only restricted to those files.
Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information Under 'Application Basics' - Profile Folders - click on 'Open Folder'
A new window opens showing the contents of your 'profile name' folder.
Exit Thunderbird now.
click on 'ImapMail' folder click on the imap mail account name folder
You will see a file called 'Drafts' it will not have any extension. This is an mbox text file and it contains draft emails. You will also see a file called 'Drafts.msf' and this is an index file used by Thunderbird. It does not contain emails.
Delete both the 'Drafts' and the 'Drafts.msf' files.
Start Thunderbird
When you restart Thunderbird, those two files should get created again and synchronise with server to show what is on the server.
