Does Inbox for this account still show up and display messages correctly? It could be that those folders are there, just not appearing where and how you'd expect them to be.

Both your account settings (e.g. Copies & Folders for Sent and Drafts) and view options (i.e. All Folders or Unified Folders under View > Folders in the menu bar) may change how and where those folders appear in the folder pane:

The Inbox shows up and displays all messages received

Sent mail; Drafts; All mail; Spam; Deleted; important and Starred folders are missing

Templates is there and seems to work ok

I followed the suggestion about switching -folder-pane-view, but it won't allow me to tick the 'All' Folder's option for the default view for some reason, so still no further forward.

Until such time as I can restore the default Folders,, I've created two folders one for copies of sent mail and one for copies of draft mail in settings and they are working ok.

My account appears on my iPhone and iPad exactly how it should be with all the folders intact, so I presume that this is a problem with Thunderbird and not Gmail.

There is a deleted box, but I can't 'empty' it as I did before, I have to physically delete each email.

Any more assistance would most gratefully received - thank you.

Do you see a [Gmail] folder anywhere in the folder pane? That's where the standard Gmail folders would appear in Thunderbird if not correctly mapped to Thunderbird standard folders.

David,

I have two folders under my inbox - one says (Gmail) (under my Inbox Folder) the other is (Gmail)All Mail - which is level with my Inbox Folder and with the folders I have then created, rather indented like the one above.

Both folders are empty and don't have any other files within them.

I have gone through all of my folders in case they moved somewhere else, but nothing has turned up except the Template file,

Interestingly I have just looked at the two other accounts I have on Thunderbird, all three are gmail accounts. The other two don't have gmail listed at all under Inbox - just the Inbox/drafts/sent mail/all mail/spam/Deleted/Important and Starred.

Right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe..., Refresh, subscribe the missing folders. Subscribe the Sent Mail folder, as that is where sent mail is copied automatically (uncheck 'Place a copy in' in Account Settings, Copies & Folders). Most users unsubscribe All Mail, as it includes mail that is already shown in other folders.

If you follow gmail's recommendation to 'Just mark it as deleted' in Account Settings, Server Settings, subscribe to Trash but unsubscribe Deleted Items.

If you save drafts on the IMAP server, the situation is a bit confusing, but the best option is described here. If you don't access drafts from multiple devices, save them in Local Folders (same with Templates).

What sfhowes said. There shouldn't be a Deleted Items folder there, not sure why he mentions that, and there is nothing special about the Drafts folder, but yeah, you'll need to subscribe to the missing folders.

There seems to be something amiss there, though…

You shouldn't have to manually subscribe to those folders, you should be subscribed by default after setting up the account. You didn't have to do that with your other Gmail accounts, did you? And interestingly enough, you appear to be subscribed to the All Mail folder, which is precisely the folder that you'd better not subscribe to.

What version of Thunderbird are you using? Although Gmail IMAP server puts the standard folders in a [Gmail] hierarchy, since Thunderbird 115 that folder hierarchy is hidden from the user in the folder pane. Folders are supposed to appear there now as if they were at the same level as the Inbox, and the [Gmail] folder shouldn't be visible there. But you appear to have that messed up. The [Gmail] folder, which if visible should appear at the same level as Inbox, in your case appears as a subfolder of it, and the All Mail folder, which (if subscribed) should appear either as a subfolder of [Gmail] (if visible) or as a separate All Mail folder (if not), in your case appears as a mix of those two cases, i.e. a separate [Gmail]All Mail folder with the "[Gmail]" prefix in the name…

So although it seems you'll have to manually subscribe to those folders in order for them to appear in Thunderbird, there is clearly something amiss there, but I don't know what's causing it nor how to fix it other than maybe deleting the account (both info and data) and setting it up again…

And you said you cannot choose All Folders under View > Folders in the menu bar? I suppose that means you have Unified Folders ticked… What happens if you choose that option to untick it? That should cause All Folders to be selected instead…
