I just want to delete some bookmarks. Suggested method does not work.

I just want to remove some book marks. The suggested procedure says to go to the bookmarks pulldown menu and select Organize Bookmarks. Then the library window opens and you select the folder that contains the bookmarks you want to remove. But the bookmarks I want to remove aren't in folders and they are not listed in the library window.

Once listed in the right hand pane of the Library window, in the right hand pane hold down the CTRL button while left-clicking on those that you want to delete, release the CTRL button when you have selected all that you want to delete, then carefully right-click on one of the highlighted items and choose "Delete", all of the highlighted items should disappear from the right hand pane; the un-highlighted items will remain in the right hand pane.

  1. Open the bookmark in a tab with a left-click or a middle-click.
  2. Click the yellow (blue on a Mac) star on the location bar to open the "Edit This Bookmark" window
  3. Click the arrow at the far right of the Folder field to see the folder in which that bookmark is stored.
  4. Click the Remove button to remove that bookmark.

You can do that in "File > Work Offline" mode if you do not want to open the link.

This solution works perfectly for removing one bookmark at a time. But I did not clearly state my problem in my original question. I have far too many (hundreds) of book marks, many (perhaps most) of which I no longer use. I want to remove large numbers of bookmarks and I'd like to avoid having to do it one at a time. However, these bookmarks are not in folders, and even if they were I may not want to remove the whole folder. So the real question is, can I remove multiple bookmarks simultaneously. PS - I did find a way of listing them in the library window, but I don't know how to select a group of them and remove them all at the same time.
