cannot open firefox profile manager

My problem started after I downloaded FF4 (twice) and reinstalled (twice). Every time I try to open FF, it says my profile cannot be opened, it may be missing... I tried opening profile manager as it says in the instructions somewhere here on Firefox.com but it doesn't open. All I get is another window that has all the file folders related to Firefox.

Try instead of "firefox.exe -profilemanager"

"firefox.exe -no-remote -P"
