Using Firefox 4.01 on win 7 - 64

Viewing a Yahoo forum message the in line images are not visible to me but other users do see them (do not know which browser they use)

I can see the images as attachments - just not when embedded in the message body

There is no image in the post on that page.
If it was there before then it has been removed.

I looks that the page is showing email messages.

A look at the source ([*]) shows that the attachments are not included:

  • Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
  • Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
  • Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
  • Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).

If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "Block Images from..." then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.

That info was very helpful in helping eliminate possible causes but did not solve my problem of not being able to see embedded images in a Yahoo forum email - however I can see all other images from various sites and attachments

Reluctantly fired up IE and it gave the same result so it appears the cause may be closer to the originator of the forum email

The originator of the particular email has not replied with info. on his image format so that is an unknown - I assumed it would all be http encoded? - maybe not

Is it likely that not having a compatible program installed on my computer which can decode the particular format of the image in the forum email is the problem??

Thanks

Do those embedded images have a cid: (ContentID) link?

If that is the case then you need to open the file in an email program to see the images.

There is no cid header info in the html coding and from my limited understanding of the page coding there was only ever 2 blank lines where the image should be so the question for me now is how do some other forum members see the images

For interest here are the lines of code from the forum message in html format
Looks like the image link is to a space gif ?

<DIV><FONT size="2" face="Verdana">Here is the&nbsp;CAD preview of the new PCB:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size="2" face="Verdana"></FONT>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV><IMG border="0" hspace="0" alt align="baseline" src="http://l.yimg.com/a/i/space.gif"></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size="2" face="Verdana"></FONT>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV><IMG border="0" hspace="0" alt align="baseline" src="http://l.yimg.com/a/i/space.gif"></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size="2" face="Verdana"></FONT>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV><FONT size="2" face="Verdana">As you know, 95% of components will be factory pre-soldered and the builder will install</FONT></DIV>

Now I am puzzled - in Preview Reply I see the html coding I inserted but back on this forum page it is not visible ???

That looks like images used to space the text and this are invisible.

If you miss images then that must be other images.

Can you attach a screenshot and post a link to that forum page if you can see the images without having to sign on?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Yes, that was evident when you read the page source code so it seems Yahoo has replaced the in-line images with spaces

Recent messages on that forum indicates the people who see the images receive them direct to their email account while my viewing (and others) with a browser do not see the embedded images - that has to be the answer!!

Thanks for all your assistance it has generated the right signals to get me closing in on the problem

Thanks again
