I switched to FF a few years ago and never had a problem Wonderful program. FF wanted to upgrade to V7, and it installed fine. Since then, FF locks up every five minutes so bad I have to reboot. My email locks up, yahoo freezes, and I cannot type more than 5 letters in a chat without lockup. Somehow, your annoying help section tries to blame this on other programs!

Mozilla is up to 9.01. I Did not have any issues with 7.x... But 8.x and 9.x are nightmares... on Xp, Win7 and OSX... All I can say is use something else like Safari, Opera or even IE. they All are more stable than FF. :(

as i read so many posts saying that with firefox 8 will fix crashes i was expecting this version to come out...but no luck again ..i have the same complete freeze followed by automatic restart of pc (have nothing in crash reports)....so i guess this mighty mighty freeze should be included as a feature of firefox....hope you will fix this crashes before firefox 100 version........ edit- i tried opera and i have the same freeze followed by restart......so now i can only guess those freezes are due to the adobe flash player and not some specific browser...just take a look at this page http://forums.adobe.com/thread/643581?tstart=0

Quick Fix.. remove the firefox now joke of a browser and install Chrome or IE9 (actually very good now).

I was one of those folks who experienced severe Firefox Crashes and blue screens, and shutting down as well. My solution however was this. It was my memory. I was using 8 G of Corsair TW3X4G1333C9 XMS3 4GB x 2 PC3-10666 1333Mhz Dual Channel memory which they "guaranteed to be compatible with my AMD system. IT IS NOT compatible with AMD systems at least mine. I removed that RAM and installed new Crucial RAM with similar specs and my system along with FIREFOX returned to normal. No more crashes no more hanging not one problem. I would advise anyone with an AMD system to check your RAM and be sure it REALLY is compatible. Sorry for bad mouthing FIREFOX. It is still my favorite and only choice. I do have Comodos version of Chrome installed as well ( as it has removed all the GOOGLE tracking) though I don't use it. Firefox is still the best browser out there for ease of use, customization and appearance. I will use it till it fails me completely. Thanks to all for your comments. Jim

hickoryshirt, Fascinating, thanks. I am surprised Corsair sticks did not work with AMD. I did not know that, but I stopped building my own computers some time ago. Off the shelf laptops for me these days. Of course, I am old now, and that changes everything.

My only comment would be from my own experience. As noted earlier, I had zero problems with every version of FF, and IE , and Chrome. It was only FF7 that puked and died. [those are technical terms] Nothing else changed, and FF help insisted that it must have been something else, and not FF7. That is what angered me, that they insisted nothing was wrong with FF7.

Since then, I have installed FF8 beta version, and I can open 15, 20, 25 tabs at once with no problem. They fixed the problem on FF8 beta and they still insist nothing is wrong with FF7. There is no rational excuse for denying the problem. It only degrades their prior wonderful reputation. It's not that FF7 has a problem. That can happen to any program, but they deny the problem and refuse to patch it.

I'm searching through all these threads to find the brilliant response someone posted a while ago. In the address bar you can go into what is like the browsers registry and manually disable plugin-container.exe . Developers you must know what I'm talking about, I did this on my pc but now can't remember what the way into the services manager deal was. Someone has to know what I'm talking about, it was the easiest solution and is still applied on my pc. Without plugin-container.exe firefox wont hang or hog. I don't understand why you guys are still incorporating this into ff.
