Tried looking for the xpicleanup.dat file to remove as stated in help files, but no luck either.

Please also try deleting the updates.xml file in the Firefox installation root folder.

hi, did a search on c drive and that file didnt come up sorry
im so frustrated. i just want my firefox back
If present it would be in the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files (x86) assuming that Firefox was installed in the default location.
See the Latest Firefox issues article. Try the first suggestion, to download the Firefox installer from mozilla.org/firefox and then reinstall Firefox (see How to install Firefox on Windows for detailed instructions).

Thanks for reporting that deleting the file firefox.exe.moz-upgrade fixed it. I'll mark your reply as the solution.
This is the first time I saw this file mentioned. A search brought up this previous thread showing the same solution: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/796566
