On two different machines (one Windows Vista 32 bit and the other Windows 7 64 bit) I updated the adobe flash plugin to 11.3.300.257, and it stopped working on Firefox (still worked on Google Chrome). No crashes, just an error message any time I click on anything needing the flash player. I restored the previous version of the plugin (11.2.202.235) and everything worked again.

That issue can be caused by the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).

You can also try to disable protected mode in the Flash player.

Hi Matt,

As weird as it may seem, about 4 hours ago (it is now 21:12 in Brazil, where I am), I uninstalled Flash Player, using Adobe uninstaller and removed folder Flash at C:\Windows\system 32\Macromed (it is like it appears in my PC). Then I opened IE (I was not able to download the on line installer using FF, it prompted to manual installation) in a page with Flash Player content. That prompted to download Adobe Flash Player plug in, version 11.3.300.262. Then, I browsed to the same page using FF. It prompted to install Flash Player (I guess it was the Active X component). My system has, according to Windows utility: Uninstall / Change (Modify) a Program, the following Adobe Flash Player 11 components installed:

Plugin ................11.3.300.262 Active X .............11.3.300.257.

I have since then been using my PC without any crash. I was giving my system some more time before spreading the news. Some more comments of a computer illiterate: Adobe informs that they have modified a timing related parameter. That matches with the behavior I was seeing with Flash Player previous version. Hope they have made a good job. There is an alert about distortion problems, though. Suggest people to check using audio/video sites (YouTube and the like).

Thanks for updating the community.

Matt G: I spoke too soon. The new download did work on my 32 bit Windows Vista machine, but it did not help on my 64 bit Windows 7 machine. I had to revert back to Flash 10.3 on my Windows 7 64 bit machine for flash player to work.

Just to support your comment, wmtan, I am having no problem but my system is a 32-bit Windows 7. Just a guess: before installing the new version I would suggest to use Adobe Flash player uninstaller and remove a couple of Flash entries in C\Windows. One is located in system32\Macromed, and other in C\Windows\sysWOW \Macromed.....(I guess this is found in 64-bit system only.). If this was done prior to installing Flash Player, then 64-bit systems have not have been given a solution yet.

Hello, Matt_G.,

After about a week using version 11.3.33.262 for FF 13.0.1, I still see some crashes. Since june 27 until today, July 3rd, I had a total of 3 crashes. I immediately got a Windows box stating that Adobe Flash plug in stopped working and Windows was trying to find a solution for that. I could wait and Windows fixes it (after about 30 seconds) or press F5 (reload). I will move to disable Protected Mode, and see if it completely solves the problem.

Make it easy for yourself - just follow the first option - uninstall and reinstall this version of flash and it will fix your problems - then do not allow auto updates of Flash (learn a lesson this time...) 11.2.202.235 Archived versions - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html

Thanks to wmtan for the first option - everyone else's fix was painful and did not work for me. I spent at least 8 hours dorking around with this....

I use Win 7 64 bit and FF 6.0.2 - I will try a later version of FF at some point - likely above version 10 but for now it is working LIKE IT USED TO! I have to run FF 6.0.2 for other apps right now.

Hopefully Adobe will get this fixed soon so the every day person can use Flash with being a programmer and computer geek to make it happen! Likewise - Mozilla needs to be aware of this before more folks switch to Chrome... ;o)

Agree completely - help fix the problem immediately - tell people to roll back - instead of expecting people to start acting like a techno geek to fix a problem caused by the software provider....
