It used to use google, but at some point it changed to yahoo. I went to about:config and searched for keyword.url. When I right click on keyword.url and then click "reset" nothing happens. When I right click and the click "modify" and put in google's address instead of yahoo's and then click "ok", nothing happens and it remains as yahoo.

A "blank" value for keyword.URL is normal and indicates that Firefox will use the default value baked into the software. If you downloaded Firefox or a Firefox update from Yahoo, the baked in address may not be the one you want. The installer from the Mozilla site (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/.../#desktop) always defaults to Google.

One of your extensions may be overriding the keyword.URL setting. Your "More system details" does not list any extensions, so could you take a look at the following tab and disable ALL Yahoo-related, nonessential and/or unrecognized extensions:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

After restarting Firefox, does address bar search work any better?

more options

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If you do not keep changes after a restart, see:
