why pictures are blury in firefox ? other browsers show images sharper !?
Hi! I don't know why picture quality in firefox is low ! I Know that firefox had resizing problems before with SVG images that now fixed , but my question is not about some specific image types , my question is why all pictures specialy smaller Thumbnails are blurry ! for example ,see these Thumbnails in this page:
Open this page in different browsers (ie , chrome) and you can see that Thumbnails are so good and sharp in other browsers like ' chrome '. i'm really like firefox and using it for a longtime but why firefox users don't deserve
a clear and sharp image !?
At last you guys can apply some Sharpening filters to images and make them so much better and sharper . i'm just curious no one noticed this difference before !?
In the end pardon me because english isn't my first language ;) THX Very mUcH For your time.

Hi Mooory, it's a good question. I haven't noticed any major problems, but each system could be a little different, especially depending on your zoom level. I notice a difference when I zoom in between Firefox and Chrome (examples attached).
What you see could be affected by whether you are using hardware acceleration of graphics. Unfortunately, Firefox has proven to be incompatible with some graphics card drivers, so some users have to disable hardware acceleration in order to avoid crashes or strange glitches. Have you experimented with this setting? This article has more information: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.
I do not follow development closely, so I do not know whether this feature is scheduled for improvement. You might also want to submit comments using the Input page. You can access that from inside Firefox using:
Help > Submit Feedback
Thank you for your time jscher2000 . but what's your desktop Resolution ? mine is 1920*1080 and i use hardware acceleration and difference in my pc is really noticeable !
also look at firefox logo it really looks nice in chrome ! maybe that is the old problem = resizing , that show itself more in higher resolutions !?
it's strange because people whine in this forum about everything but no one notice that ? I put these screenshots for you to compare : the screenshot show the difference but not much as real browsing experience ! in browsing you can see more difference , because these images have medium quality !!! look at "japanese tattoo" Thumbnail for example.

You may be right that the average person is not viewing the images so closely.
Firefox definitely could do a better job scaling small PNG images like the logo.
On my system, the native resolution is 1680 x 1050 on a 20" monitor and I'm running Windows at 100% (96ppi). Your zoom might be higher; what does my resolution test page report? http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/resolution.html.
ha ha ! i don't look at monitor so close !!! my monitor size is same as you 21" but as i said it's really noticeable in my system. my drivers are up to date too.
is there some one from mozila team to answer this to me
but again thank you for your time jscher2000.
jscher2000 maybe you are right ! i run that test on both browsers and i get different results :
Firefox 24:
JavaScript screen.width x screen.height = 1408 x 792 window.devicePixelRatio = 1.3636363744735718 device pixels per CSS pixel True screen.width x screen.height = 1920 x 1080
Chrome 29:
JavaScript screen.width x screen.height = 1920 x 1080 window.devicePixelRatio = 1 device pixels per CSS pixel True screen.width x screen.height = 1920 x 1080
what is all about ??? can i fix it in firefox ???

hello, have you set any other dpi value in your operating system than the default one (96dpi)? more information about that is available at http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_use_large_or_small_fonts.mspx
because firefox 22 and upwards will now adhere to the settings set on the system level in order to support high-pixel-density displays...
Hi Mooory, as Philipp notes, Firefox 22 and higher will read your Windows font size setting to set a baseline level of zoom in the browser.
One way to get a device pixel ratio of 1.3636363744735718 would be if your Windows resolution was 125% and you applied one increment of zoom to the page in Firefox. Another way would be to set a custom Windows resolution of 135%.
I'm not aware of any particular setting that makes the graphics smoother than another setting, and I don't think there is a difference between the automatic zoom added in Firefox 22 and the manual zoom that existed before. So if this is the most comfortable size for viewing, I don't think you would want to make any adjustments that would compromise text size.
The resolution page doesn't work in Chrome; I haven't taken the time to understand how Chrome reports the zoom level to scripts in a page.
Yes,i set my DPI to 135% . i searched with google and find this:
layout.css.devPixelsPerPx : and i set it to ' 1.0 '
and now in 100% zoom i have the same results as i get in chrome so in 100% zoom the "sharpness" of both become the same ! but when i use "zoom in" or "zoom out" , firefox show resized images blurry !!!

Try to set the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref on the about:config page to 1.0 (current default value is -1.0) to see how it looks with that setting.
You can adjust layout.css.devPixelsPerPx starting with 1.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.0 or 0.9) to see its effect.
Hi Mooory, there isn't a setting for this. The way Firefox zooms PNG images is not as attractive as it could be in Firefox 24, no matter how you change your settings. I don't know whether someone is planning to improve it in a new version of Firefox, but hopefully so, and you can add your input using the Submit Feedback feature.
Meanwhile, it probably would give you the best results to reset the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to the default (you can right-click > Reset that preference in about:config).
If you would like to do further research, you also can look on Bugzilla to see whether a specific "bug" has been filed to improve how images are resized. You might find several.
Regarding the bug tracking system: it's generally not helpful to add comments to bugs (unless there is a call for test cases), but you can register on the site and "vote" for them to be fixed. See:

Hi "cor-el" as you can see above i already changed that value and described the changes !

HI jscher2000 i read your comments again and looked at that page again ! I found that the Page DPI is different with every zoom level in firefox and it's fixed on (92-100) in chrome !
Did you mean that the page DPI chages with zoom level in chrome too but that website doesn't show that !? if that is the case so why we have sharper images in chrome when using "zoom" ?
In this settings i get the same image quality as i have in chrome :
layout.css.devPixelsPerPx = 1.0 - Zoom = 100%
But it's not good settings for my browser because everything become small and it's not good to read text on that size ! I hope someone find a solution for this !!!
***But again thank you all guys for your helps :)***
And i'm still waiting for your solutions .

Hi Mooory, the resolution page does not work in Chrome; it is not reporting the actual pixel density when you zoom in or out. I'm sorry that I do not have time to fix the page right now.
HI jscher2000
I don't care about the resolution page too much !
I mean the solutions that others mentioned above doesn't fix my problem !
100% zoom for working with firefox on 1920*1080 is too small for me, and when i use zoom my images becomes blurry .
Thanks again jscher2000 for your Attention !

Hi Mooory, I don't have anything new to add to my earlier post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/972184#answer-482430
firefox method for resizing images isn't as good as chrome !!! but they don't want or just don't care about fixing it !!! i didn't report any bug because they had same reported bugs before !!! most firefox users use 100% zoom so they don't have my problem but what about wide users with high resolutions !? they can't use 100% zoom !!! Anyway , maybe they fix it someday but till now chrome resizing is much beter than firefox .

Hi Mooory, I'm not sure why you didn't want to file a bug. It's hard to find matching bugs, so they are very understanding about duplicates and will link you to an earlier bug as needed.
Actually, I see someone filed a new bug on problems with upscaling images last week: 920957 – Image upscaling quality: Text in images loses contrast more than in Chrome. I think whether it's about the text or the other pixels, it's probably the same issue you're pointing out.
Regarding the bug tracking system: It's generally not helpful to add comments to bugs, but you can register on the Bugzilla site and "vote" for them to be fixed. See:
