FF set up not to refresh individual tabs on restart until I go to them - which is fine - but when I go to any tab it doesn't refresh - it seems to bring in old cached content and I need to refresh it manually. I don't want to refresh all tabs always since that will take too long - just when I first select it and only the one I go to - I don't care if all others don't get refreshed.

Hello pdani,

Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. Can you make sure the following option is checked:

  1. Go to Firefox Preferences
  2. Open the Tabs tab
  3. Make sure that Don't Load Tabs Until Selected option is checked

Please let us know if this has solved your problem.

Cheers, Patrick

I see that too with some pages like the ones on hg.mozilla.org

Those are loaded from the cache and I always need to reload them on every start.
It doesn't matter if they are reloaded automatically as happens with pinned tabs by default or by going to a tab.

It is more annoying when pages show a today message (TV schedules) and you don't know to which date this applies.
