Rather than go to an older, insecure version, let's fix the issues you are having in 31 :)

Can you please elaborate? What issues, error messages, etc. are you seeing?

This is a really unhelpful comment that misses the point about customer service.

With the best will in the world your fix process may take a lot longer than some people have to wait and it's not for you to make the decision around the risk of reverting to an older version or whether it's worth the wait so while you are trying to be helpful, it isn't.

If your organisation updates any of their server software do they do so without a backout option and plan? Unlikely.

I appreciate that this may only be one view of many but 'm here because you've screwed up me being able to access a games site that I use 5 or 6 times a day and because I also don't seem to be able to access some of my local development websites based on Joomla. May be related, may not be but I don't want to spend more than a few minutes on this I haven't got the time to waste sorting out your bugs and defects, or those of additional third party products that rely on your base product, so as I know the previous version was fine, with the greatest of respect...

Please answer the question as to how to quickly and safely revert to the previous version.

There is no safe way to revert. However, you said you are having trouble accessing a website? Maybe try these steps:

Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can

If by that you mean once upgraded there is no backout option - as opposed to repeating that v 30 is unsafe because of security issues - then that's particularly poor in terms of a software upgrade and I will re-evaluate whether it's time to move on. Shame because I have really liked Firefox apart from the myriad times when you have "improved" the interface but that debate is elsewhere.

I have already reverted to v 30 by

  • Uninstalling and then installing v 30.
  • Realising that half the updates seem to be contained in other areas - presumably my profile so uninstalling again, destroying my profile and any registry entries I could find.
  • Installing v30 again, set to Not update automatically.
  • Re-added all the addons back into V30.

Everything now works again as it did. Except of course the missing bookmarks etc. but I believe having now looked again there is a tool that one can use to save these before you delete everything, so you can at least get them back somehow if they are important to you

Complete waste of 20 minutes of my life, but then I've wasted more having a go in this forum but at least my anger at a poor release has been vented so it was a productive rant.

So to anyone else - a way to backout appears to be complete - as in total - uninstall and then reinstall whichever of the last couple of versions you were on - available here:

James,

so good of you to remove the reference in my post, this is to something on the support website, available through other links given by mozilla people so I don't see why you would remove it.

Your reply would also be useful to others, so why send privately to me?

For your information when I said couldn't access, I didn't mean couldn't see websites I meant they were broken. On the games site I am not the only one there are numerous people complaining about it and to date they haven't found a solution.

It happened as soon as Firefox upgraded. It would have to be a pretty unusual firewall issue to cause the symptoms anyway so while it's not impossible I'd ruled it out due to the timing and other people experiencing similar issues with different setups.

Like the previous answer yours misses the point of the question, which was HOW TO BACKOUT A FAILED INSTALL. It didn't ask for anything else.

I was seeking the same answer because I had already wasted time trying various things from knowledge, your site and others with recent or similar issues.

If the poster had asked for "how do I fix this issue...?" your answer is relevant but you appear to have placed a different meaning for the question? If you'd given your answers but also given the answer sought that would be OK but effectively you are ignoring someone who has asked for help.

Give as much information as you like, be as helpful as you like, but answer the question asked. This is all I tried to do with my experience. Why delete part of it. I understand that it's not what you think someone should do, but removing the reference to your own downloads may result in someone getting a butchered copy of the software from somewhere else.

Finally, please justify your last statement. On the basis of the knowledge you have of my machines, network, firewalls, internet connection...

If I told you that I have three machines, all same level of OS, all same AV solution, linked to same network and I upgraded a second one same result and the third one on version 30 continued to function fine. Same results if I used wireless access instead of wired, which goes through a completely different firewall & internet connection would you not conclude that the product version or upgrade process had something to do with it?

No need to reply.

Look the most common reason for not being able to connect (on Windows) after a new (any) major version update or install is because a software Firewall is blocking the new (any) version .exe yet it may still be allowing the previous version .exe you had installed.

This is not a problem with Firefox 31.0

Sorry, should have pointed out, no software firewalls on PCs. That probably wasn't clear.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. After updating firefox, I now try to access an intranet page using: https://taiserver:444/sites/default/default.aspx This is a self signed 2008 server, I receive the following: An error occurred during a connection to taiserver:444. Certificate key usage inadequate for attempted operation. (Error code: sec_error_inadequate_key_usage)

We do have a way to access from the outside world as well: https://www.taiconsulting.com:444/sites/default/default.aspx and I receive the same error. I try it from chrome and IE and they both work.

I was able to get to the sites before the update

Ah you are self-signing your certificate. I see. You are probably having issues because of Firefox's new certificate backend:
