Just in the past month, some of the teachers at my school have been having problems with downloading from Firefox. They're on Macs on OS 10.7.5 using the latest version of Firefox. If they download a pdf file, there's a message that the file is empty when you try to open it. Other downloads fail. I have reset the downloads folder, reset firefox, cleared history, cache and cookies, disabled hardware acceleration. No extensions are loaded that need to be disabled. Firefox is using the default theme. There are no Add-Ons loaded. I've created a new downloads location and/or tried saving downloads to the desktop. All of those fixes I've gotten from a search for this problem. Nothing is working. Firefox on the computer I'm on now is working fine; this is happening to others.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the source file? Have you tried downloading with another browser? Do you get any error messages? Do you run anti- virus and mal-ware scans?

Can you provide a link to one of the files?

Open the Downloads Manager <Control> J. Look for one of the files. What is the size listed (zero) ? Right click on that file and select Open Containing Folder. How is the file? Name, size . . . .

Do another download with the Download Manager showing. Watch the download. What happens?

Thanks for your suggestions. Files download fine in Safari and/or Chrome. I never get any error messages when downloading. Only when trying to open after downloading in Firefox.

The file size is listed as zero. I don't have the Open Containing Folder option. Don't know if that's not a Mac thing. With the Download Window open in Firefox, the file will start to download (the little download arrow never turns blue) but then it'll stop and say Failed under the name of the document.

Thanks again for trying!

Thanks again for trying. But I had found that article and already tried all of those suggestions and nothing has helped. I think we'll just abandon Firefox and use Safari or Chrome. But I really appreciate your efforts!

I have this problem, too. When I download files, the file will be empty, and there will also be a file with the extension of .part that contains the actual file. Sometimes it will have the same name and other times it will have a string of letters and numbers for the file name. I do a rename to get rid of the .part file and I delete the bad, empty file. It's a pain to have to do all that.
