I am trying to add a Gmail account, but I keep getting a configuration error that states my password is incorrect. I saw someone else post a similar question, but I do not know if the user was being sarcastic, or if it was because I could not see the answer until I had registered here. The user's response was, "I cannot believe the swiftness of your the help on this forum, within seconds you guys fixed the problem," and that was the only solution to that post.

Google recently changed how it lets non-Google mail programs connect.

Google only wants you to connect with applications that use the newer OAuth 2.0 protocol. Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, and some other mail clients do not support that. So you need to change a setting in Gmail to "Allow less secure apps".
