I have found this on my laptop and my main computer but when ever I try to purchase anything from any website I'm give the 'untrusted connection' message. These are not questionable sites either. Amazon, ebay, the Book Depository I can't buy a thing from any of them. I can't even get to the Waterstones site any more. Instead of the welcome page I get Untrusted Connection message. I'm only looking for a book! What is going on? I have checked the technical details and every time I receive the message that the site has been blocked because their security certificate is untrusted. The reason for this is because the issuer is unknown. I've followed the suggested course of action on the support pages and deleted the file before rebooting. But nothing has worked. It's only when I try to buy anything that I am blocked by the Untrusted Connection message. I can't sign in to ebay, I can't buy a thing from anywhere and while I do try and limit my spending it is getting annoying. I use the latest version of firefox and my security software is the most recent edition of Kaspersky Internet Security. While I know this program will ask that I buy things with it's online specific program active I'm not getting far enough to warrant its interference. So why is it that if I go near any section of any site that suggests paying for a product am I getting the Untrusted Connection page? Surely they can't all have security issues at the same time for this long. I've had this for over a week now and there is nothing in the news about a catastrophic attack on paypal. What's more, my friends and relations can buy things online. I seem to be the only one with this issue. But I cannot work out why. Any advice?

Hey SlashSlashX

Please click the "Technical Details" when on the Connection is Untrusted page and compare to:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connection-untrusted-error-message

Try following the steps in the article above and let us know if that solves your issue.

hope this helps

I tried it and it didn't work. I'm still getting the same message.

please make sure that the date, time & timezone are set correctly on your system. if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:

  • what is the error code shown under technical details on the error page?

in case the error code equals sec_error_unknown_issuer, please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page in order to inspect the certificate like it is shown on the screenshot attached:

  • which issuer information does the certificate contain?

please report back with those two pieces of information. thank you!

I've gone over the date, time and timezone and they are all correct. Having checked the error message, it does say (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer) When I checked the Issuer Information was: Common Name: Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Root Certificate Organisation: Kaspersky Lab ZAO Organisation unit: <Not Part Of Certificate>

Does any of that help?

yeah, thank you - so it appears that kaspersky is intercepting your secure network traffic but isn't in the firefox trust store, which makes it look like a man-in-the-middle attack (& therefore the error pages in firefox).

you could either go into the kaspersky settings > additional > network settings and disable the scanning of encrypted connections there. alternatively you could also try to import the kaspersky certificate into firefox like described by another user at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1026631#answer-650916.
