Can no longer view PDFs in Firefox
I can no longer view PDFs in Firefox 38.0.5 on MacOS 10.10.3. While trying to figure out this morning why links in PDFs were not working, I switched the one PDF mime type that was set to "Preview in Firefox" to use Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in 15.007.20033 and made sure that plugin was active. Since that time, no matter what I do, I get a blank page in the browser when I try to view PDFs. Not only that, but I cannot switch back to Preview in Firefox despite having deleted mimeTypes.rdf and pluginreg.dat and removing and reinstalling Firefox.
I find old news about the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI plug-in not working in Firefox, but nothing recent. I'd be happy to use Firefox's built-in PDF preview if only I could get it back. Any idea how?

Adding to this: I was just able to switch back to Preview in Firefox for PDF in the Applications preferences, but now when I click on a PDF it downloads it. I also no longer have the various PDF types that were being handled by the Adobe plugin listed in the Applications pane in the preferences.
O.K., I was able to get it working at last. I did this:
- In Preferences > Applications, I set Adobe Acrobat FDF Document, Adobe Acrobat XML Data Package File, and Adobe Form Client Data File to "Always Ask." - I set Portable Document Format (PDF) to Preview in Firefox. - However, I left the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in active.
Now PDFs open in Firefox once again. I don't know what's opening them--Firefox's built-in viewer or the Acrobat plug-in or both--but I don't care as long as it works.
