why can't I get the latest version of thunderbird
two questions really: 1: why can't I get the latest version of Thunderbird apart from an automatic installed update through the Thunderbird update tab?
2: why does mozilla support ALWAYS take me to firefox even if I want information about thunderbird?

in both of these questions I come to mozilla.org and to get to thunderbird I select thrunderbird but, whether on my vista machine or my win 10 machine - I can't get the most recent version on the mozilla site. When on the vista machine I can get thunderbird ver 38.5 and on the win 10 machine I can get 38.6 but the current ver is 38.7
also - even if I am on the thunderbird tab, as soon as I select support it takes me to firefox.
The reason on XP and vista is described by https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/get-latest-version-thunderbird-windows-xp-vista
Due to signed setups of recent versions on Windows where unless you have WinXP SP3 and updated enough on Vista with patches like KB2763674 you would not be able to install recent versions.
Like Mozilla did with Firefox in serving 43.0.1 (43.0.2 to current is signed), the Thunderbird community is serving a version (Tb 38.5.0) that all WinXP and Vista users can install and update from instead of newer Releases that many WinXP and Vista users cannot install.
