Hello,

I've just updated my Firefox after a long while using a very old version which I really liked, but I thought I should give the new version a try. But, this new 'Tiles' newtab screen I just cannot get used to it, I really don't like it at all and I see from other posts I am not alone in my dislike, not alone at all! I want my old style back where I edit the 'browser.newtab.url', set it to my home page and away we go. This new Tiles page reminds me of the Windows 8 start menu, which as we all know everyone and their dog hates with a passion.

So, is there anyway I can disable this Tiles newtab page go back to my simple: 'browser.newtab.url' way???

Thanks for your help.

The browser.newtab.url pref is no longer supported in Firefox (41+), so it is no longer possible to set the new tab page via this pref.

You can look at this extension to set the new tab page:

You can set the new tab URL via the Options/Preferences of the extension on the about:addons page.

You can look at this extension if you use the home page as the new tab page.

Classic Theme Restorer includes this feature as well. You find "New tab page url" in the Tabs (2) section.

You can use pages like these:

  • the default new tab page with the tiles is about:newtab
  • the default home page is about:home
  • for a blank page use about:blank
  • for Super Start use about:superstart
  • use the URL of a web page

See the about:about page for available about pages.

Hey euphoria, thanks for coming to us for help!

to disable the tiles page you can go to "about:config"in firefox and set "browser.newtabpage.enabled" to false.

Hi Kyle, thanks for the quick reply.

That does help in disabling the Tiles page, but how can I add/enable the 'browser.newtab.url' like it used to be in older versions, it seems to be missing now???

Regards
