Have updated Firefox and always make sure I have downloaded the recent version but keep getting spam pop-ups which is absolutely ridiculous. I could be reading an email OR an article and the spam pop-ups will bring the red screen and ask me to download. I always have to pay extra attention that I don't "download" and allow POS spammers to take over my life. Amazing Firefox is not aware of these spam pop-ups OR just don't care !!!!!

Today's spam pop-up: firefox-pahl.js - https//oochaons96.org

Firefox is well aware of this. Please try to report the sites you can use the built in reporter in Firefox from

Menu {threebar icon) -> Help {(?)) -> Report deceptive site

The problem is the sites used are disposable and change every day or so. They are coming from adverts, and you may be able to stop or reduce the frequency of these if you use a blocker such as ublock origin

Well done for spotting the fake site, and thanks for posting about this.

Oh Mozilla is very aware of these fake urgent Firefox update sites as you can see at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/712056

Unfortunately this is much more elaborate compared to somebody just creating fake sites to serve this fake file. Only those who got the Ad could view the url and it is not easy to reproduce if you never got this before in order to get information on the where how and such.

You sure the file was not firefox-patch.js ?

Mozilla the company is aware you mean and not the web browser ;)

John99: You are correct - I think I was so mad that I made a typo. I was working the entire weekend and had similar pop-ups Saturday night, Sunday night and Monday night !!!! So today I decided to make a note of the link to keep tracks of all these stupid scams. POS don't have anything to do in their POS lives except to run scams because they think they are smart and anonymous !!!!

Thanks.

Pop-up problem has increased dramatically in the last few weeks. Some take over the whole screen and appear to have no way to be closed other than closing Firefox. Ads are increasingly interfering with legitimate content. It appears a significant effort is needed or many will simply stop browsing the web.

If it's like the fake FBI/Interpol browser lock page, This add-on can stop such pages; disallow Script Button {web link} The Disallow Script button looks like a letter "M" and the title is the Minus Script, drag and drop the button on a toolbar. If the button is not displayed then nothing operates, except rules for plugins.

Fred, this is a old thread from Sept 6 so the Flash Player versions listed are older due to this.
