Before I posted to Thunderbird I was talking to my ISP provider. I had forgotten my password so we ended up changing my password. I followed your instructions in your reply and removed the password entry in Thunderbird's security section. I then signed out of Thunderbird and got back in. It did not ask me for a new password.

A firewall has been built into Windows since XP.

Analysis of the saskatel server indicates it fails many security tests.

Press Ctrl+J to open the error console. Clear it. Attempt to get mail. What appears in the error console? (right click and copy works for copy and paste to messages on the forum.)

I am expecting errors about ciphers. But we will see.

I did a CRTL+J while on the sasktel.net server and then cleared all entries. I then went into Thunderbird and tried to download my mail. Nothing came down. I then went back to the sasktel.net server and did another CRTL+J. There was no entries there.

ctrl+J in Thunderbird. not in firefox or some other server location.

So you press Ctrl+J, clear the contents, click get messages then look at the contents of the dialog.

I went in Thunderbird and did CTRL+J. A tab called "saved files" opened up. It was an empty tab it just said "No Saved Files". There was nothing to clear. I tied to download my messages. Nothing came down and when I di a CTRL+J again it was still empty.

I told you the wrong thing and then could not see it. Sorry.

Shift+Ctrl+J is the shortcut.

It also appears on the tools menu as error console

I went into Thunderbird and went into TOOLS and then ERROR CONSOLE. I then cleared all entries. I then pressed GET MESSAGES. Went back into ERROR CONSOLE but it was blank. I then got out of Thunderbird and went back in. I then went into ERROR CONSOLE and found a bunch of entries this time. I then copied each entry which hopefully follows.

I have this same problem. I have not been able to D/L emails from my "me.com" accounts for the last 4 days that I know of. The server is NOT the problem as I can D/L them on my ipad. I am running win7 home fully updated. I have followed the above instructions & here are the results,

If you care to read my post you will see that I am not hijacking this thread as I have the SAME problem. I am adding my info to the thread for others to analyse and possibly help to find the problem. But if it makes you happy I will start my own thread about this problem WE BOTH HAVE!!

You can not get mail. That is not in all likely hood the same problem with the same solution. just as my car does not start mean the other person y6ou know with a car that will not start has the same problem.

@oswi50 You are using sasktel.net for your email then and not me.com correct? My car has no engine and will not start. Do you think I have the same problem as the man next door. He has one with no petrol.

Please also add the result of these troubleshooting steps to your post

• Does Thunderbird work in TB Safe mode (see Thunderbird Safe Mode)?
• Do you use anti-virus and firewall software? What is the version?

There is no difference to how things are working while in TB SAFE MODE.

I have MALWARE anti-virus software 2.2.1.1043. The only firewall software I have is what is in Windows and I have the latest version of windows.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings.

For the Incoming Server change 'Connection Security' from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS.

That password change solved the problem. Thank-you
