I recently upgraded to firefox quantum v57.0(64bit). Before that I saw that firefox.exe was listed as a process in Windows Task Manager. It was a single process which started at about 200Mb and grew in time to 2-3 Gb. Since I have 4Gb of memory, this was a problem with speed and crashing which could only be resolved by restarting firefox. Why? Now with v57.0 I find 4-6 firefox.exe processes in Task Manager. I now understand this as the new multi-process format. They also grow in size and cause the same problems. How do I correct this?

You could try this please : Go the Menu then Tools --> Options --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower, then see how it runs. Hardware Acceleration might have also been a issue so turn it off. Run it later and see as you turn things back on and test it, and again. Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

This will help maybe: See if you can find updates for your Intel(R) HD Graphics as they are A little old : driverDate: 1-30-2013 You can Google Intel(R) HD Graphics and find the download page https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers, but you may have to know what generation chipset you are using. GPU-Z will tell you this https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ Can also try : https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html I do see errors in the drivers. Old & corrupted Drivers cause a wide range of issues. Please keep them updated to prevent issues and you never know when Intel will stop supporting them.

I turned off the acceleration and limited the size to 2 processes, although I do still see 4 or 5 processes active. ASO3, Driver Toolkit, and Intel Driver and Support Assistant all indicate that 1/30/13 is the latest update for INTEL(R) HD GRAPHICS. I still have the problem. The combined FIREFOX processes RAM usage has climbed to over 3GB (system RAM is 4GB). FIREFOX crashes around 95% RAM usage, but it slows considerably before that point. I see no problem with any INTEL driver. I will be augmenting RAM soon, but that may just reduce this problem. Any more suggestions?
