Bookmarks toolbar order I have / had on Windows 10 device keeps changing
The Bookmarks toolbar order of links as to how they appeared as I had on my Windows 10 computer Firefox changed a few days ago from what I had long had, and now when I try to put in back in order I want, it keeps changing as well. I have Firefox version 68.0.1 on the WIN 10 device. Only other thing I've done in past few days is set up a new iPad from my old iPad, and I have/had Firefox on the iPad too. Is that iOS device somehow taking over my WIN 10 Firefox version? Can I recover the order I had? Can I make the WIN 10 version the master?

Okay - finally solved this - I did the standard procedure - removed the Firefox program and reinstalled it. So far the bookmarks I've arranged o the toolbar are staying put. As to why the problem occurred in the first place is still a mystery.

The problem started when you started using sync?

With sync, there is no master.
Open your iPad and change the bookmark order on it. Any better?
IMO, the Sync server is messing up the order of your desktop bookmarks toolbar, what with having the iOS device using the same Sync / Firefox Account. IMO, that could also happen with Firefox for Android, too; due to how the Sync server handles bookmarks on the "mobile" versions of "Firefox for".
I wonder if there is a correlation between the desktop bookmarks toolbar and 'where' the same URL is stored on the iOS device? Sorry, I don't have a "mobile" device so I can only speculate as to your problem --- but with all the support threads I have seen over the last 3 years and 4 months since Sync was modified for Firefox for iOS Beta and tried to help other user's the best that I could, that is what I feel is the issue.
I wonder if that bookmark is getting "moved" too on the iOS device? Like when you 'correct' or fix the location on the desktop bookmarks toolbar?
I don't use Firefox on my iPad or iPhone, I just have them installed. On the new iPad, when I opened Firefox (for first time), it presents turning synch on. So it appears like Synch isn't even activated.
And the problem started out of the blue, because I really don't use sync, to my knowledge.
Are you possibly using the iCloud extension to sync data to this iPad?
I think that this is related to making changes to the bookmarks and how this affects Sync.
You can look at this long comment and comments further down in the Sync bookmarks engine file to get an impression of possible problems:
And neither Firefox on my iPad and on my iPhone have any bookmarks, because I've just been using Firefox on my Windows computers so far.
I literally move a bookmark for the Bookmark's toolbar from the >> list of ones not visible to the visible horizontal bar, and then seconds later the one I just moved goes back to the >> list.
Are you using the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the Bookmarks Toolbar or did you place the bookmarks on another toolbar ?
Item are normally moved to the overflow area (>>) when there isn't enough space available or if there are flex items on the same toolbar that take prevalence.
Can you attach a screenshot?

cor-el, a screenshot with redacted info is uploaded.
The screenshot shows that some bookmarks have quite long names, so maybe shorten these long names to see whether that makes fit more on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
That isn't the problem cor-el - it isn't an issue of not fitting. It is that I cannot get the bookmarks to stay in the order I had them. It almost seems that other bookmark folders and bookmarks have overlaid themselves on what I had, pushing the ones I had down to the side, and at the same time not letting any other bookmarks be put ahead of them.
I may have to remove all my Firefox programs on all my devices and start all over.
