Thunderbird suddenly stops being able to receive emails - IMAP
We've been using Thunderbird with Office365 through Comcast for a few years now in an IMAP setup.
Suddenly yesterday some of our clients stopped being able to receive emails. When asking to retrieve emails it would prompt for a password. We would enter the known password and it would just keep prompting.
1) Changed the password through the admin account for office365 and then updated in Thunderbird - no luck Keeps prompting for the password 2) Installed Thunderbird on a clean computer and it still gave the same problem
We checked the settings and they were configured as follows: Server name: outlook.office365.com Port: 993 Encryption method: TLS
The outgoing server works fine, we can send emails and folks receive them. Server name: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Encryption method: STARTTLS
Tried many suggestions online, but the fact that a new install gives the same error has me wondering.
One thing that partially worked was switching to OAuth2, then we were able to get the messages, but could not move them or delete them ( they would just reappear) Error message in this mode said The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account xxxxxxx@xxxxx responded [TRYCREATE] the destination mailbox could not be found
Did something change with Thunderbird? Please help, thanks

After speaking to Comcast, who couldn't help because we are using Thunderbird a third party tool that they don't support I tried a few things. 99% of the time their Support fails
By myself I was able to solve as follows:
The Delete problem was solved, it was a missing Trash folder so it couldn't find it to put them in there. That is solved now.
Also a simple switch to OAuth2 for the IMAP mail server authentication fixed all issues.
Even though the directions for Office365 and Comcast instructions tell you differently. So not sure if they hit a switch and it changed, but we were never notified.
Hope this helps someone else not lose four hours of the workday trying to solve!
Microsoft have been progressively enforcing oauth for mail for about a year now.
I have similar problem. I can not delete messages. I checked trash folder, still there had 42 items in it and was able to delete them. Then I tried to delete an email from the main folder and then one from a sub folder. Still will not let me delete. comes up with error message in image provided.
