While following this step in order to reduce CPU and memory consumption of firefox [content-prefs.sqlite file], I accidently deleted the Profile folder itself.

After this firefox wasn't opening and was stuck on not responding in activity monitor.

I reinstalled firefox, multiple times even after a shutdown, removing any old files in the Library folder. Still it's stuck on the same issue, firefox doesn't opens up even once.

One of the solution that I got accidently is, to install firefox twice.

  1. When you try to install firefox when it's already present it will ask to Keep Both, Stop or Replace.
  2. Here choose Keep Both, now in launchpad you won't see the second install.
  3. Go into Applications folder there you will see Firefox 2, click on this and use firefox normaly.

You can delete the application named Firefox, but don't rename the Firefox 2 as Firefox or as it will also stop working. Very weired probably due to some, refractoring issue in the name.

NOTE: This is a hacky solution and not a FIX.
