When I open Firefox A message appears: URGENT! Your version of Firefox does not protect against on-line attacks. New version does not download

Is it really true that you are using version 3.0.9? This is an old version that is vulnerable to security issues.
You can install version 3.6.17, which has a more similar interface to what you have, from here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Or you can leap to Firefox 4 here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
If you don't make regular backups of your computer, it's a good time to back up your settings folder. See the section of this article on copying your entire Firefox profile: Backing up your information.
Does that work?
I am trying to download 4.0 I get the 4.0 setup but nothing more. When I try to get my profile I get 373dfd.default
It's normal to get a setup file that you have to run after you close Firefox. Do you get an error when you double-click it? Nothing happens?
(Because profile folders are named randomly, I think you are in the best position to determine the name.)
