How do you set up Firefox so when you open an attachment to an email it gives you the option of opening it instead of saving it to somewhere?

Attachments...now....are saved to my desktop. Is there any way you can set it up to open the attachment instead of saving it to my desktop. Internet Explorer gives you the options....I use Firefox almost exclusively I would like that option....is it possible?
