It still crashed even when you started in safe mode. IE even crashed too. I did some more surfing and found that Trusteer Rapport had been reported as causing problems, so I went to their website and reinstalled it (or installed the latest version) and not only is the machine faster, but it doesn't appear to crash anymore...

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

I have this problem too on 17.0.1 on Win XP, not just on RBS Digital but on EBay too. When I try and l long in to either, the Firefox symbol in the top left of the window turns to a white rectangle and Firefox freezes. Even if you leave it for an hour, it is still frozen.

The only option you have is to close the application at the top right of the window. Ever helpful Windows then asks if you want to send a report, which I do (which probably gets dumped in Puget Sound), and another window pops up with a link to click to tell you why it crashed (and here is the interesting part), the link doesn't work. Or rather it probably does but with Firefox crashing and the application being shut down, you cannot restart it, nothing happens. You don't seem to be able to start Internet Explorer either nor Google Chrome (which I have on my machine for some reason). If you reboot the machine, Firefox starts up again, however trying to log in to RBS again makes it crash.

I have, in this order: 1. Ran AVG virus checker - made no difference 2. Ran ESET online virus checker - made no difference 3. Ran Malwareantibytes - made no difference 4. Disabled all my add-ins - made no difference 5. Downloaded Firefox and re-installed it - made no difference 6. Reset Firefox - made no difference 7. Went back to a previous restore point - EBay started to work at login but not RBS 7. Followed the instructions above - made no difference

Any ideas? Anything I should be trying? Is there an error log stored somewhere that we can look at?

Cheers for now

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Iterestingly, it has crashed once today already but the crash report is not there (unless the times are not GMT).

Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

It is OK is Safe Mode however it still crashes with all Extensions and Plugins disabled.

No new crash report was submitted when it crashed after disabling everything.

Any ideas?

Many thanks, that seems to have fixed it. I'll keep an eye on it and report back.

Everything is still enabled again although IE Tab is missing. Maybe see how things go then reinstall it.

Cheers

In order to switch to another persona that you had previously installed, do the following:

  1. Go to Tools and click Add-ons (or click the Firefox button at the top left and click Add-ons).
  2. Switch to the Appearance tab. You should find your previously used personas in the list.
  3. Find the one you want to use and click the Enable button.

To uninstall the other ones you can click the Remove button on them and they'll be uninstalled instantly.

I am using it to send emails from Hotmail correctly (hyperlinks in emails sent without an IE engine are text rather than a link - confuses some people).
