Something, anything, pops up from the browser and stops my browser from going to the web pages I want it to either manually or via a macro of some kind. How to make the browser not do that would be a wonderful thing.

Just make it stop. If I want to browse. I want to browse. I do not want some nsPrompter or any other message popping up and stopping me from getting the job done. Whether I am at the keyboard or sleeping. Just let the browser do my work.

Hi magnets, as a test of whether one of your add-ons or custom settings might be responsible for this problem, could you create a second Firefox profile? That's a parallel personal settings folder. You can easily create a new profile and switch between profiles using Firefox's profile manager.

If you exit all Firefox windows, you can start up in the Profile Manager using:

Start > Run > firefox.exe -p {ENTER}

For best results, accept the standard location and assign a name you'll recognize (like TEST). Then start up Firefox in the new profile.

Any time you want to switch profiles, close Firefox and return to this dialog. I recommend not deleting any profiles until you are sure you won't need the data stored in them. More info: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

If you can browse without problems, you could exit, go back to your regular profile, and manually disable or remove nonessential extensions.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

If you dislike manual troubleshooting, you also could try Firefox's Reset feature. This article has the details: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.
