Is LastPass not suggested by Firefox anymore? Is MaskMe the new suggestion? Do these two add ons do the same thing? Which is best or should I use both?

When I generate a Last Pass password a window pops up from MaskMe asking if I would like to generate a strong password. I was used to using Last Pass but MaskMe was suggested by Firefox so I added it. Is it redundant? Is it better or should I continue using Last Pass? With all the concerns about security I want to do the best thing. Thanks

Hey--I'm from Abine, the company that makes MaskMe. Microrobot got it right, but I figured I'd chime in too.

LastPass and MaskMe both have very similar features when it comes to account storage, autofilling, and passwords. We also have strong security where the company can't see or access your master password because it's stored locally on your device.

However, MaskMe has a broader feature set that goes beyond account management and logins to let you use the web without giving away your real contact info.

  • It lets you create alias (or masked) email addresses that forward to your real inbox, letting you block spam in 1 click
  • You can also create alias phone numbers and credit cards, so you can buy things or give out your phone number without retailers or merchants having your real info

It all comes down to what you're looking for. LastPass is great at what it does, and so is MaskMe, but MaskMe covers more areas of online privacy if you're worried about that.

"The major difference between the two to me seems the added function of the masking email and anti spam protection that mask me has so it depends on your needs if you don't need the added email protection go with lastpass if you do try maskme let us know how you get on I use lastpass and I've always loved it but the android app is paid I need a secure password manager I can use on desktop and android." My suggestion: Use whatever you feel does the job. Try both and pick which one you like.
