I have a new Nexus 10, and installed both Firefox and the Epson print app. when I go to the Rockville swim and fitness center, full screen, it will show me a button on the right side labeled schedule. clicking on that starts a download (it should simply show me the contents of the file like the real Firefox does). if I go to the download section of Firefox, the download is listed, but when I try to view it with the word app, it claims that the file is not present. if I try to view it with the Epson app, it claims that the app has stopped. if I go into epson print and look around, i can find the file and read it. But this is unreasonably complex. The same problem occurrs with crome, but crome doesnt appear to support full screen. this problem is not present on the apple ipad with default web browser.

in the original post, I intrepid "PDF viewer" as a name for an independent app, and as I said in my reply, I installed this app. you suggested that what I needed was a Firefox add-on. I installed this add-on, and was able to see the page. I believe you still have a bug in the download page, in that it appears to not pass the correct name to the non-firefox app that you would like to use.

Hello dpmccul,

Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. It looks like the file you're attempting to view is a PDF. You should be able to use the following Add-on to view PDF's in Firefox for Android.

PDF Viewer

Please let us know if this solves your issue.

Cheers, Patrick

not really. after clicking on the link, I go to downloads, where the document is listed, but when I try to open it, all of the PDF readers object, some saying that the file does not exist, or just failing. however, when I start adobe reader, it lists the file and will open it. I shouldn't need to exit Firefox and open a different app in order to read a document. I don't think I should need to even go to downloads.

Hello dpmccul,

The add-on that I've listed above should change the current behavior to the one that you're expecting. The add-on will allow you to open PDF's by clicking on the link rather than going to downloads.

Cheers, Patrick

well, I installed both the recommended PDF viewer as well as the adobe reader. But I still see, when I click on the link "download starting", not the preferred display of the page.

PDFs are not a web standard. While desktop Firefox can display PDFs using the PDFjs extension, Firefox for Android does not have this capability.

Displaying PDFs is a complicated and difficult thing to do on mobile web browsers. So far all have decided to leave it to external applications such as Adobe PDF reader. Though Mozilla is looking at optimizing PDFjs for Firefox for Android

Hi dpmccul:

Both kbrosnan and patrickmc are right.

patrickmc recommended an experimental pdf.js add-on that is still under development by Mozilla Labs folks (as kbrosnan pointed out). Hopefully someday it will be mature enough that it will be product quality and work for most PDFs including your Rockville swim and fitness center schedule PDF.

Until then, you can try add-ons but the best solution for those who just want to display PDFs and not experiment with add-ons is to:

download the PDFs and display them with external applications such as Adobe PDF reader (again as kbrosnan pointed out).

Cheers!
