This all just started a few weeks ago. I will be on a web page and all of a sudden and box would come and it was titled, About Blank. Now 2 pages pop up and one has a bunch of boxes that say facebook, you Tube 2048 etc. The other page behind that says elementary video. How do I stop this? It is very annoying. I will be typing and up these boxes come.

Hello,

Please take a look at Pop-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting.

If that doesn't help, sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

I downloaded and ran all of your suggestions and I am still getting that "about blank" page popping up. I wonder if I should uninstall firefox and reinstall it. If I do this, will I lose all my bookmarks?

You can check the home page setting:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:
