how do i show number of emails in folders in thunderbird 38.0.1

Prior to installing 38.0.1 the folder list showed the number of emails in each folder. There was an icon at the top of the display to control whether it showed all stored emails or just the number of unread emails. Don't see that icon any longer and can't find any way to again show the number of emails in each folder.

So how do I do that? I'm running Windows 7.

Thanks - you nailed it!! Not an especially intuitive term "folder pane columns", so I probably would have been clicking away on all sorts of things for a while.
