I have C:\Users\rasro_000\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\6s4jy997.default. Is there a way to convert this into a file I can use as a backup?

So, I have really messed up my computer and am missing tons of mail. The earliest folder I can find that may have the mail is C:\Users\rasro_000\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\6s4jy997.default. Is there a way to change this folder so it will be usable to import as a profile? Thanks!

That isn't your profile folder and it doesn't contain your mail. Check this article for more information. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

Thank you for taking the time to reply. So if my mail isn't in there, can you explain why the folder consists of 3,716 Files, 791 Folders and is taking up 9.7 GBs of space? Also why is the Mail folder in the Default folder taking up 5 GBs of the 9.7 GBs used by the whole folder?

The new cache structure tends to create lots of files. Why this would take up 9.7 GByte of space I don't know. Perhaps there are mail files underneath this path, but they really shouldn't be there.

Also why is the Mail folder in the Default folder

I have no idea what the 'Mail folder in the Default folder' is.

Thank you again for trying to help me, I appreciate it.

So it turns out there are two of these default folders: 1. C:\Users\rasro_000\rasro_000\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\6s4jy997.default

2. C:\Users\rasro_000\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\6s4jy997.default

The first takes up 15.5 MB and only has a few folder in it, but the second one does take up 9.7 GBs, and has lots of folders in it. I've attached a screen shot. The mail folder is around 5 and the impa folder is around 4.5 GBs. I am able to open the folders and see sub folders, all of which look familiar to me, but I can open the folders. This is weird...

Any ideas? Thanks for your help again!

That is your profile folder.

The mail folder is around 5 and the impa folder is around 4.5 GBs.

These are the ones containing your mail. Mail files are in mbox format and have no file name extension.

You should be able to import individual mail files into a new profile using this add-on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
