After an individual email is inserted in the address book, it later gets appended by the work organization name or department in brackets, if the name is empty, e,g, "[Mozilla]". It repeats and appends again. Some addresses get display names line "Bjorn Jones [Mozilla] [Mozilla] [Mozilla]". If the work information is blanked out, the cycle stops and the display name stays static.

Where does this work unit come from that is appearing in your display name?

Usually, the additional text is the organization or company from the business address information, with "[" and "]" added. It is always from some information in the address entry, and blanking the item out will usually stop it.
