Address Book Lists getting totally confused
It is easy to create Lists in my Address Book, But when I try to add Contacts, some move & others don't. When I do add a Contact I find that some of those already added disappear. When I look at the main Contacts list I often find that some have become duplicated. The whole process should be so easy, but it is a mess. Is the problem with me or is it with Thunderbird?

When address books (and their component Mailing Lists) don't work properly, I suggest exporting to an LDIF file, deleting the old address book and then reimporting from the LDIF file.
Select the address book (e.g. Personal Address Book), go to Tools|Export and select the location and name for the exported file. Make sure you give them different and distinctive names. Note that you need to export each address book individually. You can't export the collective "All Address Books".
If the address book in question is one of the two built-in ones, you'll need to close Thunderbird and delete its associated data file. Other address books, i.e. user-defined, can be deleted from within Thunderbird.
Personal Address Book = abook.mab Collected Addresses = history.mab
What is an LDIF file & how do I create one? Which format should I use - .csv or .vcf?
I see "LDIF" in the same list where vcf and csv appear.

Hi Zenos - I'm revisiting your replies, I had an Address Book called 'Contacts'. That has gone. The default Address Books were, & are, empty. In my default Profile I find three '.mab' files - impab-1.mab 21 KB 2016-06-11 abook.mab 9 KB 2016-06-11 history.mab 2 KB 2016-06-09
What, if anything, can I do with these files to recover my 'Contacts' Address Book?
abook.mab is a Personal Address Book, and history.mab is a Collected Addresses.
I don't know much about impab.mab; here's one suggestion on what to do with it:

Another approach is to import old mab files using the More Functions For Address Book add-on.
Update - I'm done with Thunderbird! I took an in-depth look at my Web Mail Server (Rogers\Yahoo Canada) & found that it has better features than Thunderbird - both in the areas of Mail & Mail Storage folders & Address Book. I've spent far too much time in the last week trying to sort out TB & its Profiles & lost Address Book. After this, I'm going to uninstall TB. Thanks for your efforts to help along the way.
