All emails not now visible in inbox (virtualfolders.dat)
I have 3 active email accounts. Before the latest update, and certainly until very recently - I could see all my emails from the three accounts combined when viewing the inbox. Now I can only see one of the email accounts when looking in the inbox. This is not even the default account. Access to the other email accounts can only be seen when selecting the individual email account.
I wish to return to having one combined inbox. Is this possible please?
Regards
Pete

I think you also have to delete the smart mailboxes folder.

Hi, there are known problems with Gmail in relation to Thunderbird 52.2.0, where not all mail boxes are shown. As far as I known it is a bit random to which folders are shown and which aren't.
The Thunderbird developers are busy trying to create a new version that contains a fix. In the meantime it's best to downgrade to Thunderbird 51.1.1 (if indeed your problem is occurring for Gmail accounts).
Onno,
Many thanks for your suggestion. However, I am unable to locate where to download the earlier version of thunderbird. Are you able to assist please?
Regards
Pete
Hi Pete, Depending on your operating system and locale you can download it from a subdirectory from this folder: http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/52.1.1/ Sorry for not being complete the first time :-) Onno
Do you actually have gmail accounts?
Onno,
Many thanks for your help. I have now downloaded that version.
At least all the gmail accounts now come on when i open thunderbird. Although not all the emails are displayed when in the inbox, as they used to be. I can though just step through each individual gmail account to see the emails.
I hope a proper fix though comes soon!!
Regards
Pete
52.2.1 is now available which resolves a gmail problem
Wayne,
I've downloaded and updated the software. Thanks for the tip.
I wonder if you can advise if it is still a known issue that previously, when just in the 'inbox' folder - rather than in a specific gmail folder - all email folders were combined together and the composite were displayed. Now that is not the case, and only emails from one specific email account are shown.
Many thanks
Pete
So you are referring to the unified inbox (View,Folders,Unified), like this screen shot.
But I am not sure what you mean by composite. Do you mean nothing is displayed in the unified Inbox?
Wayne.
I apologise for being unclear.
My view looks similar to yours, other than I only have 3 gmail email accounts.
The best way I can describe it is previously, I could click on the 'inbox' - and all of the emails from the three email accounts would be present in that box to view. They were viewable and sorted by date order. If I needed to look at only emails from one particular account, I could then click on the required email account (as in your screen shot.)
Now, although i can view emails in the individual account works - the unified view within the inbox doesn't. I can only see emails in the inbox from one of my email accounts.
I hope this is a bit clearer.
Many thanks.
Pete
delete virtualfolders.dat is your Thunderbird profile https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=profiles-tb
I deleted that file from the profile and reopened Thunderbird. No change. The issue is still present.

I think you also have to delete the smart mailboxes folder.
Sfhowes,
You've solved the problem!! I had to delete not only the virtualfolders.dat file but the smart mailboxes folder too.
I can see now all my emails in the one unified folder.
Thank you so much (and to all the other people too for their suggestions.)
Regards,
Pete
My problem seems much simpler than the ones here. I just opened my email this AM and there is NOTHING in my Inbox. All other "boxes" (Sent, Trash) were okay except that the Trash hadn't automatically emptied after I deleted almost 2,000 emails last week. So I emptied the trash, hoping that was the problem, but with no luck. I'm not very computer savvy as far as adding and deleting programs, etc., so is there just a simple "fix" that someone can suggest?
Thanks in advance, Carol
