tabs not restored on android Firefox v55 after an upgrade
Hello,
I have just updated on 2 Androïd devices Firefox to the latest version (eg 55). Unfortunately, after this update I have lost all my previous tabs :-( It's really a pity! This is the first it happens to me after an upgrade !
So I think it's a bug: could you confirm please ?
Is the anyway to recover those tabs after this upgrade if we don't launch firefox (waiting a new Firefox release which would fix this issue)? Or those tabs are lost even if we don't launch Firefox ?
Generally speaking, the tabs restoring on Android was not as handy as it is on Windows platform for example.
As a strong feature request: is it possible to have an "restore previous session" option somewhere in order to have something equivalent to what we have on Windows platform ? Or to have access to session.js or something like that on android platform ?
Best regards.

I have issued a bug for that: 1389245 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1389245
My bug is a duplicate of this one: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1389119
Thank-you Franos13. We plan on fixing this in FF 55.0.2 for Android which is planned for later this week! Cheers ! ...Roland
Hello,
Thanks for the feedback. I have followed Bug 1379374 and have seen that it has been fixed. Nevertheless I don't know if the 55.0.2 will restore the tabs I have lost on 2 devices with the 55 upgrade !
Could you tell me please ?
And what about my feature request: is it possible to have an "restore previous session" option somewhere in order to have something equivalent to what we have on Windows platform ? Or to have access to session.js or something like that on android platform ?
Best regards.

Hello again Franos13:
- "Nevertheless I don't know if the 55.0.2 will restore the tabs I have lost on 2 devices with the 55 upgrade !" <- Sorry 55.0.2 won't restore your tabs. It just fixes it going forward.
- "And what about my feature request: is it possible to have an "restore previous session" option somewhere in order to have something equivalent to what we have on Windows platform ? Or to have access to session.js or something like that on android platform ? " <- Not sure what exactly what you mean here but if you mean Firefox Settings-> Advanced -> Set "Restore tabs" to "Always restore" then yes that feature already exists, if not please let me know what exactly you are looking for
- Finally, FF 55.0.2 with this fix is out for 10% of our users. i.e. 10% of users will get an upgrade to 55.0.2 prompt from the Google Play Store. If things go well, we'll change that to 100% later this week.
Cheers!

Hello,
1. I don't catch you, most probably because my knowledge on FF on Androïd is not sufficient. Indeed, in FF on Windows, under Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>.default folder, you are able to find sessionstore.js in previous FF versions which can help you to restore your tabs. There are a lot of posts regarding the way to use this file:
- https://support.mozilla.org/fr/questions/1012716
- https://support.mozilla.org/fr/questions/1039825
Why not having the same kind of trick on FF for Androïd ?
2. The setting you're talking about is activated
Hello,
Digging more on FF 55 Windows versions, the tabs storage is now located under Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>.default\sessionstore-backups folder with:
- previous.js
- recovery.bak
- recovery.js
Why can we have access to those files on Windows platform and not on Androïd one ? It will help us to revover the tabs I have lost, right ?
Best Regards.
Hello Franos13
"Q: Why can we have access to those files on Windows platform and not on Androïd one ? It will help us to revover the tabs I have lost, right ?"
My attempt at an answer (only a Firefox for Android engineer would know for sure):
a) you don't have access to the files on Android in the same way as you do on Windows; as designed by Google, Android is much more locked down unless you root your Android and install a 3rd party ROM (not for non technical folks, i.e. not recommended)
b) those files don't exist on Android, the profiles for Firefox for Android and the profiles Firefox for Windows use different files and are not comparable
Cheers again!
