I been noticing lately about user reporting when updating to FF57 that their system (Windows O/S) becomes unstable or become resource hogs on the system itself. I myself was on the fence going to FF57 because of the Addon exclusions. But I finally begrudgingly went to FF57. But this is what I did first. 1. Restore the previous working Image saved from Acronis Imaging software 2. Uninstalled FF56 or previous not uninstalling any Addons here *noted* 3. Restarted and installed FF57-like to mention my O/S is 64 bit so installed FF57x64 version 4. Before running FF57-I made folder "chrome" in user profile of FF, will show why in a bit. 5. Then copied "userChrome" custom install css file into there so that the "Square" looks returns back to FF56 rounded looks. 6. Started FF57 to see the changes and check on Addons and then did update Addons to restore them-All working so far. 7. Made sure I re-configured FF57 settings to what I wanted in FF56 previous and closed and restarted. 8. Ran FF57 to see what it does-no system hangs, hogs, or Thermal overload.

So for those having issues with FF57 not saying it can happen but it could also be related to a system already having issue that FF57 just added more to it and with it being update could be that it finally was the last straw that broke the camels back. As of right now I am running FF57 only because it is latest Browser but I don't see to have the same system instability as being reported. I could be wrong buy my system is a Windows 10x64 Pro FCU 1709 AMD X370 1500X 16gig MSI GTX 1060 6G and I don't seem to have problem like what is being mentioned.

In answer to your question "Are the system hangs and overload really a FF57 cause?"

I think the simple answer is NO.

I have to say that I abandoned Firefox for Waterfox when that came out, as it was running in 64-bit. Although I still have Waterfox installed on various machines (mostly because I want to run some old Add-ons sometimes), I was so impressed with Firefox 57 (apart from the square tabs and bookmark folders changing to grey) that it is now my main default browser again on 3 computers, an iPad, and an Android phone.

My PCs running Firefox now include a Windows 7 laptop, a Windows 10 Pro desktop and laptop, and I have had no trouble with any of them.

Like you, I use a userChrome.cs file to fix those issues and now hide the display of bookmark history stuff (I have thousands of bookmarks in quite a deep folder structure). Out of interest, you might like to look at what I posted in this question thread:

Can this be shown as "solved" :)

I didn't change much of the structure of my FF57 setup beyond the dark, light, medium color and Square look. I left the customize the same for the most part just moving some things around to look like FF56 was all. But as for my android I did notice lags with FF57 and that is expensive when your on data usage not wifi so I move to Chrome for the time being. Maybe when a newer FF5xx comes out-I'll try again.

If you have issues of to much ram being used and hangs etc...

Go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Help ? --> Troubleshooting Information Page and take a look in the Accessibility section if accessibility is set to "true" there. if yes, go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser. Restart Firefox

There are other solutions also but that limits the multiprocessor/
