I'm wanting to import my cookies, saved passwords, history and form history from a much older version of firefox, it seems the files are different now, so I can only really put my bookmarks over to the latest firefox version.

Is there a way to convert or maybe an addon that can read the older files and apply them to new firefox?

Just for reference the files I have are history.json, usernames-passwords.json, cookies.json. I'm guessing my form history is in history.json and not seperate, unless it's in my profile file. (These are all from Firefox 28 I believe, backed up with FEBE)

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 28.0 r0 by removing it with this tool : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html If you use it Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.154 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Hi, possibly using FEBE to backup was a good idea at the time but should have been backing up doing this :

It will not be possible to restore those as you say from version 28

These are the current files in your Profile :

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db
  • cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

Since are in json format no idea what throwing a copy of them into : https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html as the above is for Bookmarks but might get history out of it in a HTML file to get the URL's.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

You would have to use FEBE in a Firefox version that supports this extension like Firefox 52.9.0 ESR with it own profile folder to restore this FEBE backup.

Then you can copy the files that are created by FEBE to the current profile folder.

Current Firefox releases use logins.json and key4.db for the passwords, so you will have to remove an exiting key4.db file to make Firefox use the key3.db file used by older Firefox versions. If you get signons.sqlite instead of logins.json then you need to remove an existing logins.json as well to only have signons.sqlite and key3.db in the profile folder.

You have to reset imported from SQLite prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value on the about:config page (search: importedFromSqlite) to make Firefox import data from present SQLite databases.

  • browser.download.importedFromSqlite
  • signon.importedFromSqlite

Close and restart Firefox to make Firefox apply the changes and import the SQLite databases.
