I have version 64 installed. I am sick and tired of the update nag. I used to be able to turn it off. Now something has tried to update something so every time I open firefox my os asked me if I want to let firefox update my computer. NO I DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And don't preach to me about security as a need for updates. I get it, I understand it, but its not always convenient for me to update every time you decide to release an update.....which is why I don't want to be nagged every time I open the browser.

I will update once. If that doesn't give me an option to get rid of the nag I will downgrade to the last version that will allow me to get rid of the nag.....and then I will NEVER UPDATE AGAIN. If the browser gets too old to work then I will just stop using Firefox.

Good job. You went from being my favorite browser to my least favorite over night.

How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox 64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md

I'll try that.

However, I'm tired of hacking to fix software problems. From Quickbooks, to Microsoft, to Firefox......there are just way too many software vendors that fail to understand how people use their software. And then try to force us in to their narrow view point of how to use. Removing the availability to turn off updates is a problem. I do updates, but do them all at once and on Saturday after I've backed up my computer for the week......these nags just get in the way of doing business during the week.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

Yes, that was indeed an interesting post.

Whoever removed it, should read this :

go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and open the update-settings.ini* with Notepad++. Remove the part after the = symbol (firefox-mozilla-release) and save it

These are all interesting solutions. But they are all just hacks. Mozilla needs to fix this right.

The updates updates for a reason not just because they want to. So one needs to understand this as well. Yes, there are hacks or registry or other means as you eluded to but updates are there for good measures and reasons. If the browser doesn't update and when problems happen the user Faults the browser for not protecting their security. This happens more then not. This is a give and take system if you want a protected Browser there are sacrifices one has to take into account.
