TB (ver 128.6.1 esr, 64 bit) not updating Verizon emails since 21 January 2025 to my PC. AOL Webmail shows new Verizon emails. Running Windows 11. No VPN. Firewall is off. AVG Antivirus turned off. POP account. Tried: If you cannot log in to your ISPs web-based email interface, your password may have changed. If so, it must also be changed in Thunderbird. To change your password:

       ◦ Click the menu button  and choose Settings.
       ◦ On the Security panel, click on the Passwords tab and then click Saved Passwords....
       ◦ Click on the relevant account and then click Remove.
       ◦ Close and re-open Thunderbird. You will be prompted to enter a new password for the account.

Reopening TB does NOT ask for a new password. Running TB in safe mode does NOT ask for a new password.

Looks like Thunderbird isn't automatically checking for new messages. What are your account Server Settings > Check for new messages settings? What happens if you do manually check for new messages (e.g. by choosing the corresponding option from the File menu)?

Thanks for the rapid response! Server Settings > Check for new messages settings (checked): Check for new messages at startup. Check for new messages every 10 minutes. Automatically download new messages.

If I do this manually, by clicking on the "cloud" shaped icon (Get Messages) below the File toolbar, the blue(ish) progress bar illuminates for about 15-30 seconds, then extinguishes. Nothing happens.

Interesting: If I click File>>Get New Messages for>All Accounts, the blue status bar does NOT illuminate and nothing happens. If I click File>>Get New Messages for>Current Account, the blue(ish) progress bar illuminates for about 15-30 seconds, then extinguishes. Nothing happens.

I don't know why Thunderbird seems to not even try to connect to the server, which is what would cause it to ask for the password after having removed it. You've checked the account Server Settings and they look correct, right?

Try running Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode and see whether the problem happens there as well. The following article explains how to do that and why it can be useful to help identify the cause of a problem:

What you describe is as if Thunderbird was configured to use an incoming server for which it does have the password…

Can you please verify that the account Server Settings > Server Name is the same as the server for which you deleted the passwords in Settings > Privacy & Security and that no password for that server remains there?

Yes. Server settings look correct. They were the server settings suggested by TB during the initial install. I have not changed them since the initial install (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). I will add that email comes from a Verizon server while I can only view Web-mail on AOL. When TB stopped working, I assumed Verizon had dropped their (third party app) password to force a password update. I did the AOL gyrations to get the new third party password and now need TB to ask me for it. But with stored passwords, it would not. That's why I deleted the stored passwords assuming (I know) that TB would ask for a new password.

I have tried running Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode (Disabled all add-ons and Reset toolbars and controls) with the same result.

Interesting: When I start Windoz 11 in "Safe Mode with Networking" and try to open TB, a pop-up says: "TB is already running, but is not responding. The old TB process must be closed to open a new window." Close the pop-up and use task manager, there is no TB (or Mozilla) process running. When I open TB, the open process shows on task manager, after a brief pause, followed by a second task for the TB pop-up error.

Interestinger: After restarting Windoz (Safe Mode off), now when I try to open TB, I get the same pop-up that says: "TB is already running, but is not responding. The old TB process must be closed to open a new window." If I close it, it reopens after a brief pause. This cycle continues. I have to select "Cancel" to get it to stop all TB tasks.

Now, I cannot access my account Server Settings > Server Name nor my passwords in Settings > Privacy & Security.

Seems I have taken one step back.
