I was blaming my Screen for the pictures of staff on our website for not displaying correctly for example a plain blue shirt looked like it was striped with curls and faces and hair had shiny spots on them. I have one program I can only use with IE so while using it I checked our staff pictures all were fine. I also checked with a colleague on the server that uses IE 7 same issue as firefox but I used IE8 and it does not have the problem. (www.proteome.org.au) I have just uploaded firefox 4 and there is no improvement as yet.

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

See:

  • Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
  • Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
  • Check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
  • Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)

The images are not missing they just look terrible. As I said in my previous note they look just as bad when using ie7 but back to normal when using ie8. There is obviously a software issue not a tools issue.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

Also make sure that you aren't scaling images.
You can check that in Tools > Page Info > Media
