I had all my bookmarks deleted when I downloaded the latest version of firefox 6. Ive tried going back to an earlier restore point on my pc and reinstalled firefox 4 and it works ok. However now it wont let me save bookmarks at all

The Firefox 4.0.1 version is no longer maintained with security and stability updates.
Using unsupported Firefox versions is at your own risk and makes you vulnerable to attacks.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
