Java Plugin blocked and no option to enable anymore
Yesterday we received the message that our version of "Java has been blocked for your protection".
However, we were able to bypass dis-abling the Plugin. Today, the soft block has turned into a hard block and the browser has disabled the Java Plugin and doesn't provide the ability to re-enable it.
Our technology group can re-enable the Java Plugin through about:config, but we cannot expect or want our users to attempt this action.
We are using an IBM product which currently requires Java 1.6.0_23 and no higher.
We have varying levels of Firefox in use (from 9.x to 11.0).
We need to be able to enable the Java Plugin. Our only alternative is to restrict users from Firefox and only use IE.

Firefox is useless to me without the Java 1.6.0_23 Plugin. My computer does not support any newer versions, and without it I cannot access my bank account. Therefore I need to know how I can unblock it, or which version of Firefox I can roll back to so that I can continue using this plugin. I'm currently using Firefox 5.0, is there an older version I can use with this plugin? My only other option is to stop using Firefox and only using Opera from now on.
You can enter "about:config" in your address bar.
Then locate extensions.blocklist.enabled and set it to false (To set to false, double-click it)
But, you will be dis-abling the entire blocklist, not just java.
Thanks! Now I can continue using Firefox.
Changing extensions.blocklist.enabled to false doesn't work for me with Firefox 11 on WinXP. My JRE plugin is still disabled and I can't enable it. Due to other requirements, I cannot update my JRE plugin.
After posting the above, I tried something that works, but has undesirable side effects: If I completely remove my user preferences directory (C:\Documents and Settings\myuser\Application Data\Mozilla), all plugins are re-enabled, and then I can quickly change the blocklist setting. This does mean my java plugin isn't disabled, but I loose history, bookmarks, etc.
Anyone know a better way to re-enable a blocklisted plugin?

You need to delete the blocklist.xml file in the Firefox Profile Folder.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
Thanks!
Deleting the blocklist.xml file works for Firefox 11. I can now go in and re-enable the JRE plugin if I want.
Deleting blocklist.xml and blocking extensions.blocklist.enabled has not worked for me. Running firefox 3.0.3 on an older G4 Mac (so upgrading firefox or flash is NOT an option). I keep getting the "blocked for your protection" instead of flash, and get no pption to reactivate, nor uninstall (to reinstall it), flash. Any idea? (other than deleting Firefox and -gasp- using IE)
You can try to delete the pluginreg.dat file.
You did also remove the blocklist.xml file in the Firefox Profile Folder?
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
AngelHerreros, you said you are using Firefox 3.0.3? You can use the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page to open the Firefox profile folder in Firefox 3.6 and above. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Finding_the_profile_folder if you are using an older Firefox version
