unexpected pop up
A few days back I clicked the icon to open Firefox and a popup appeared that said something like, "This is embarrassing but Firefox is having trouble opening. Would you like to try to fix the problem or start a new session?" I clicked on Start a new session but since it has bothered me that I may have fallen for a scam or bug infestation. What is the truth? N.B. I ran an anti virus scan afterwards and nothing turned up wrong.

That means that Firefox has crashed more than once or didn't close properly.

Try to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.
