Hi, AliceWyman & Cor-el, I hope you see this because after all this time I can report problem solved once and for all. I've been busy the last couple of months and haven't had the time (or ambition) to work on it. However, about two weeks ago, a light bulb came on. I've spent the last week proving my solution because it has been so intermittent. It turns out we've been looking in the wrong place! It's a hardware problem not software. I don't know what gave me the idea, but running memtest 86 from a bootable cd revealed an intermittent memory stick error. I replaced the memory and haven't had a problem for a week. To be sure, I just put the old memory back and FireFox immediately crashed on start up. This has to be one for the books. You may want to pass this on to anybody who has an intermittent problem. There should be several passes made in memtest 86 to be sure of finding a possible problem.

Thanks for all your help.

You asked where you would find a bug report for a particular crash. It would be towards the end of the crash report page, where it says, Bugzilla - Report this bug in Firefox, Core, Plug-Ins, or Toolkit , right above the "Crashing thread" section. For example, this crash report has a number of related bugs: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/89f5694d%2D658e-42bf-980f-906722120823

Hi, I know it's been a while since I posted, but I've been busy. It's crashed three times in the last week (not bad considering what it used to do). Two of the times was on start up. I've lost track of everything I've done or haven't done and I give up. It's livable at this point. Someday I'm going to totally reinstall the world and see what happens. In the meantime, I'm headed out to Pensacola for about a week so I'll be away from the computer (it's a desktop).

Thanks for all your help it was really appreciated.

Thanks for posting back, that at least the crashes are less frequent. If you ever get to the bottom of the problem, please tell us!

Best wishes, and have a good trip! Alice

P.S if you do get this fixed, I'll be very grateful.

Hi Matsky, You would be best to start your own thread please use /questions/new. That will make it easier for anyone trying to help you.

Then if you post again in this thread once you have asked a question it can be cross linked it so that it may be found if other readers of this thread are interested.

I tried the first of your Reports it is empty. When asking a question please include as much of the optional information as possible i.e. system details. (That may be difficult if Firefox crashes too quickly)

Presumably you have already seen

If you decide to try the ResetFirefox feature please make sure backup your Firefox profile first.

Matsky

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

I tried to do what you've instructed, but it still keeps crashing (I've even submitted countless report cards about this and it still hasn't been fixed by those who created this product.)

All your crash reports have an @EMPTY signature, so it isn't possible to use them.

If you have submitted a crash report with an valid signature then please post one of those.

Does it help if you boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen)?

You can do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Well, it happened again.

I tried to click the Details button, but it won't display.

Matsky, it would probably be more helpful if you started your own thread instead of riding on mine. I haven't found a solution yet either BTW. In a week or so, I'm just going to reinstall the world and see if that helps.

Well, thank goodness you finally fixed it (fingers crossed)! I looked through this thread and I did post on 8/30/12,
I'm sorry but I really can't think or anything else to suggest, other than to work through the other suggestions here: *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes

For the record (in case it's helpful to anyone else) http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes#Hardware_problems says the following:

Hardware problems, especially bad RAM chips, can cause Firefox to crash. [ref.] Download Memtest86 for Windows and Intel Linux or Rember for Mac to test if you have bad RAM chips.

Anyway, Thanks for posting back with the outcome.
